USDA Deputy Secretary and Congressman Costa visit Central Valley, tour with Upper Kings River districts focuses on groundwater projects

Fresno Irrigation District General Manager Bill Stretch in partnership with Chad Wegley, Alta Irrigation District, and Phil Desatoff, Consolidated Irrigation District, hosted a tour of a groundwater recharge basin for USDA Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small and Congressman Jim Costa on August 1. During the tour, they discussed the importance of investing in groundwater recharge basins as a proven strategy for drought preparedness, groundwater sustainability, drinking water supply security, and environmental enhancement.


Bill was interviewed by ABC30 and KSEE24/CBS47 who covered the tour. The news coverage highlights the $3 million awarded from Congressman Costa’s Community Project Funding Requests for the Upper Kings River Community Water and Climate Resiliency Project. The Project is a collaborative groundwater recharge-focused effort between FID and the Alta and Consolidated irrigation districts.
